Sample Handling

GeneticEdge uses a saliva sample. The test does not use blood and it does not use needles.

The steps

• You choose a test and we send a saliva collection kit to your home.
• You collect saliva with the kit.
• You return the sample in the packaging supplied with the kit.
• A specialist genetics laboratory in County Durham analyses the DNA.
• You receive a personal report online.

What the laboratory does

The laboratory tests five genetic markers. The report explains which variations you carry, what researchers have reported about them, and where the evidence is uncertain.

The sample is used for the test you order. We do not sell samples.

How long a sample is kept

The laboratory uses the sample to produce your report. Email us if you want to know whether the sample is kept after testing, or if you want it destroyed.
